Creative Writing Competition

Inspire learning (a tutoring company) came into class today to deliver a writing session and launch a creative writing competition. Children started to plan a story and we will continue to work on it next week, before writing adventure stories, to be entered into the competition.

Make sure you think about all the story writing steps to success and you never know, you could be the winner of a family trip to Disneyland!

Super subtraction!

This week in maths lessons children have been mastering their written and mental subtraction methods.

Digital Leaders

Children had to create a digital entry, showing their ICT skills, to become a digital leader. Several children from year 3/4 have joined the group.

We will meet every week and tasks will include ensuring equipment in the ICT suite is working, testing new Apps on the iPad, commenting on class blogs and being on hand to help anyone with ICT issues.

Roman Battle

Our creative-curricular topic this term is Romans and today we had an exciting start to our learning!

Discussing similarities and differences between Romans and Celts...

Children learnt about the Romans invasion of Britain. Year 3/4 became Celts for the day and year 5 were Romans. Each class designed and made shields and weapons...

Ready for battle...

Our battle would be an organised game of 'Catch the flag'...

The Romans were winners and we discussed how they were better prepared for the battle, with bigger and stronger shields, more weapons and they had even built a wall to guard their base!! Although the Celts were brave and fearless, the Romans were just too powerful to be be defeated.

What an exciting start to the topic!

Brilliant Britain - Elections

Whole school assembly

Singing 'God Save the Queen'...

The Election...

Voting...

I wonder which party will win!?

Tasty Spanish Treats

Thank you so much for bringing in some unusual (but yummy!) treats to share with the class. :-)

Back to Basics!

Children discovered what life was like for children growing up in the 50s and 60s in Britain and they enjoyed watching video clips of children at play!

Parents and grandparents were invited in to play games using just a pen and paper. We made the most of the lovely weather and went outside. Thank you very much to the helpers who taught the children how to play games like battleships and squares.
